these are just some of my favourite shots taken (and filtered) from my most recent trip to istanbul, one of the most exceptional cities i have visited in my life.
like its unique geological location between europe and asia, its culture, history, people and cityscape is one-of-a-kind.
i like its rich culture and deep history, which are totally different from what i am usually familiar with. though its people may appear conservative and reserved in some aspects, maybe due to their religious customs and restrictions, there are areas in which they are unapologetic in their bold and passionate ways too, like how they approach strangers (or pick up girls), or how they talk about their country, or how they make their demands onboard (as our passengers), hahaha. its streets are an interesting clash of old and new, with ancient mosques standing alongside modern shops and restaurants selling all kinds of the most curious merchandise; so vibrant with smells and colours.
having said all the above, i have to admit that istanbul is not the easiest city to navigate in, or even really safe, to be honest, but that is what an adventure is about – getting out of your comfort zone, experiencing the new and unfamiliar, taking calculated risks and all that, you know? and i know there are many, many more exhilarating activities and magnificent sights beyond this city; if only i have the chance to explore them all one day!
till then, i’m just glad i get a taster of what this beautiful country has to offer. ❤
